Yesterday we completed work day number one. It was our first
time at the building site. We learned how to lay bricks for the third and
fourth houses of Mosaic Paarl Valley and were able to complete half of the back
wall and side wall. It was incredible to watch everyone work together to
complete the goal of the day. We also had the help of some German interns. They
were so kind and helpful with the brick laying.
We had lunch at Mother’s of Wellington. The women there
prepared us the most delicious lunch and welcomed us in with open arms before
sending us off for the remainder of the day. After lunch a few of us headed
back to the work site to continue laying bricks while a few went to the community
center from last year.
The community center is where the after school program is
held and where the interns spend most of their time. Some team members were
able to help them out and play with the kids during the afternoon. We will be
sending people in small group to the after school program to help each day.
We had dinner at Le Bac last night, which was where we stayed
last year. It was so nice to be back there reminiscing about the year before.
Everyone loved the food and we were all able to talk for hours with each other and
get to know the other team members.
We are finishing up breakfast right now and then will be
headed to the work site again for a long and productive day J
